We’re delighted to share a recent project by Savannah Interiors, a boutique interior design studio based in the south of Sydney. This Dulwich Hill home is a beautiful example of how considered design can honour a property’s original character while elevating it for modern family life.
From enhancing the home’s classic federation facade to creating a seamless transition between traditional interiors and a light-filled, modern rear extension, Savannah Interiors approached every detail with precision and purpose.
We sat down with the team at Savannah Interiors to talk through their vision for the project, the challenges they navigated, and the styling priorities that brought this vibrant, inviting home to life.

1. Tell us a little about this project. What was your vision for the home?
Our vision was to enhance the federation style of the home while making it more relevant for modern family living. We worked closely with the developer to stay true to the exterior facade, choosing colours that complemented the original architecture and highlighted its unique features.
2. How would you describe the style direction? Were there any particular colour palettes or materials that guided your choices?
The direction was guided by the architectural changes. We ensured the internal colour palette transitioned seamlessly from the traditional sections of the home into the modern kitchen and sunroom addition at the rear.
3. Were there any challenges in the design or styling process? How did you overcome them?
We faced a few challenges with the kitchen design. By collaborating with the developer to adjust the layout and colour palette prior to the final fit-out, we achieved a much better flow between the open-plan dining area, the kitchen, and the sunroom.
4. When it came to property styling, what were your priorities?
Our priorities were to emphasise the traditional high ceilings using accent artworks that draw the eye upward, while maintaining a consistent modern feel throughout the home.
5. Did you have a standout moment or favourite detail once the property came together?
The standout for us was seeing how the furniture and artwork combined to make the sunroom feel so vibrant and inviting.
6. Finally, what advice would you give to homeowners preparing to sell their home?
Choose a stylist who performs due diligence by collaborating with your agent. It is vital that the home is styled specifically to appeal to the target demographic, whether that be families, executives, or a combination of both.
